About the Role

Within SSOE's Tool Install division, we specialize in delivering, designing, and engineering of complex process equipment across semiconductor fabs and advanced manufacturing facilities. Our team is composed of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals who excel across various disciplines. We pride ourselves on our cross-disciplinary approach, which allows us to understand and address our clients' needs more comprehensively than traditional, siloed methods. What sets us apart is our ability to seamlessly conceptualize, plan, and detail every aspect of design. Our in-house experts collaborate closely, optimizing and enhancing our work through multi-discipline strategy sessions. By leveraging cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art software, we deliver industry-leading technology and innovative solutions from day one.

The Structural Engineer is responsible for developing and engineering structural solutions that enable safe, constructible, and code-compliant installation of equipment and support systems, while coordinating closely with project managers, design leads, lead structural engineers, and cross-discipline project teams. The engineer will prepare calculations, 3D models, drawings, and review packages, manage design changes through formal review gates, and help resolve field conditions, RFIs, and submittals.

At SSOE, we don't just talk about the future, we build it. As a leader in industry AI adoption, we empower our team to work smarter by providing responsible access to the industry leading AI Large Language Models, vibe-coding platforms, and securely integrating advanced tools into every role. From day one, you'll receive the training and support needed to leverage AI as a core tool for enhancing productivity, sparking creativity, and streamlining complex workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for tool installation support systems, including equipment frames, platforms, anchors, racks, lateral supports, and associated steel or concrete modifications within semiconductor fab environments.
  • Develop design calculations, assumptions, load path evaluations, and basis-of-design documentation for tool hookup and facility modification scopes, ensuring constructability and code compliance.
  • Prepare and review structural drawings, 3D models, details, and connection concepts for cleanroom, subfab, and utility-adjacent installations that support process equipment integration.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, discipline leads, and cross-discipline project teams to align structural scope, sequencing, and delivery requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, model coordination meetings, and issue-resolution sessions through pre-design, design development, IFC release, and construction administration.
  • Support clash and interface resolution between structural elements and adjacent systems such as piping, cable tray, equipment anchors, access clearances, and maintenance pathways.
  • Evaluate field conditions, verify existing infrastructure where required, and incorporate site walk findings into design revisions, repair recommendations, and installation strategies.
  • Apply QA/QC procedures to calculations, drawings, and models, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with internal standards, client requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Track design changes and support change control by documenting impacts to scope, cost, constructability, and schedule, especially when revisions affect tool installation sequencing or safety.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters by reviewing work, sharing best practices, and helping strengthen technical judgment, documentation quality, and coordination habits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Arizona or eligibility to obtain by reciprocity within six months of hire. Professional Engineer (PE) license in California is a plus.
  • Minimum 5+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably supporting semiconductor, cleanroom, industrial, or high-technology facility projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Revit, BIM coordination workflows, and Autodesk Construction Cloud platform.
  • Strong experience in structural analysis, design calculations, and preparation of construction documents for equipment support steel, anchor design, and facility modification work.
  • Proficiency with relevant structural modeling and design software, drafting/model review workflows, and coordination tools used in multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Solid understanding of steel, concrete, anchorage, load transfer, equipment support design, and interface requirements in active or mission-critical facilities.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and safety requirements relevant to semiconductor fab and tool installation projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage design coordination across multiple disciplines, respond effectively to client comments, and resolve technical issues in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and collaborate confidently with stakeholders.
