About the role

An internationally recognized, design-driven architecture and engineering practice is expanding its Detroit presence and launching a dedicated structural engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to join at ground level and play a key role in shaping the direction, culture, and technical excellence of a growing office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of structural systems (steel, concrete, timber, masonry)
  • Collaborate closely with architecture and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated design solutions
  • Prepare structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and client presentations
  • Perform site visits, field investigations, and construction administration
  • Contribute to internal standards, best practices, and innovation initiatives
  • Support mentoring and development of junior staff
  • Aid in business development efforts and help grow the Detroit structural team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis and design principles
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, etc.)
  • Experience with analysis/design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, RAM, SAFE, or similar)
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
  • Passion for design excellence and integrated project delivery

Additional for Mid-Level & Senior Candidates

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring junior engineers
  • Client-facing experience and/or involvement in business development
  • Interest in helping build and scale a growing team

Location

Detroit, MI (hybrid flexibility available depending on role)
