About the role

This role is within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, where you will be involved in designing critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team from schematic design through the design development and contract document phases of a project.
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team (architecture, MEP engineering, civil engineering, etc.) to lead the production of the structural deliverables for projects.
  • Analyze and design components of the superstructure for building projects.
  • Mentor and train structural interns and EITs within the department and across business groups.
  • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines and resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Cook up workload through the design phases in order to complete the documents on schedule.
  • Perform construction administration (CA) tasks such as submittal review, respond to requests for information (RFI’s) and other coordination tasks with contractors in the field during construction.
  • Cook and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents.
  • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering; Structural emphasis.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ structural engineering experience.
  • Experience with design of Health Care and Higher Education projects is strongly encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous structural engineer experience.
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.

Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and experience with relevant software tools.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Pay Transparency Ohio: $78,610 - $129,145.
