Structural Engineer

About the role

This role will provide structural engineering expertise in support of the SFHP Project, helping deliver the design through construction completion and commissioning. The candidate will provide technical support for all aspects of structural engineering, including review and checking of design documents and deliverables from contractors/subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural engineering concepts and construction standards, methods, practices, and techniques to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Evaluate and advise on contracted work to ensure quality and compliance with plans, designs, and specifications.
• Determine the adequacy and validity of contractor data and compliance with safety requirements.
• Track progress and status of projects and contractual change orders using various reporting mechanisms.
• Conduct on-site inspections of construction sites to identify and resolve technical issues, ensure compliance with project requirements, and address potential or actual problem areas.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in the design and analysis of structural systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• State of Idaho Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain within six months.
• Demonstrated experience working on projects from concept through construction completion.
• Knowledge of design, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
• Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, and IBC codes.
• Ability to understand and follow established Amentum quality procedures.
• Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to work onsite at Idaho National Lab daily.
• US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to lead groups of engineers and designers to complete technical portions of projects within established budgets and schedules.
• Experience with Department of Energy (DOE) standards and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field.

Essential Functions

• Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting.
• Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. (e.g., supplies, drawings).
• Hand manipulation required for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Occasional need to reach and/or work above or below the shoulder.
• Must remain alert to equipment in the field; occasional travel required.
• Work near construction job site equipment, hazardous machinery, and uneven ground.
• Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, temperature/humidity extremes, and potential work at heights.

Equipment and Machines

• Standard office PC with provided software.
• Travel required as needed.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere with professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and background check.

Pay

$125,000 - $185,000 (actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and applicable laws).
