Requirements
- Three years of full-time, paid professional structural engineering experience
- Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering courses from a recognized college or university
Preferred: experience with school building construction and a Professional Engineer (PE) certification recognized by the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
Responsibilities
- Perform moderately complex structural engineering work, including preparation, analysis, and review of design plans, specifications, estimates, and reports to comply with federal, state, and local agency guidelines
- Conduct contract administration by reviewing structural services provided by engineering consultants and architects; make revisions and recommendations
- Prepare structural design plans, specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual and detailed cost estimates, and reports for construction, maintenance, and operation of concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, and related structures
- Assist in reviewing project status, initiating changes, and providing advice to structural designers and other engineering staff
- Review structural plans, specifications, design calculations, and cost estimates for structural engineering projects
- Assist in evaluating completed structural work for conformance to standards, construction feasibility, completeness, and accuracy
- Design and layout foundation, floor, wall, and roof framing plans for major building structures
- Provide recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers, and construction inspectors on structural issues during construction
- Analyze environmental impact reports, negative declarations, and soils test data to recommend foundation designs
- Prepare feasibility reports and preliminary designs for proposed structures and facilities
- Perform site investigations and prepare scoping reports and recommendations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
