About the role

The Structural Designer/Engineer for buildings projects (Aviation, Transit and Mission Critical) at EXP is a role within the Building Structures team. Reporting to the Director of Building Structures, this position is located in the Chicago office and involves executing projects throughout the United States and several US Territories. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team in-house and with subconsultants, collaborating on a variety of project types including mission critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail facilities, and commercial building design.

Responsibilities

  • Take direction from senior engineers and project leads.
  • Conduct calculations, sketches, drawing production, specifications, and multi-discipline coordination on a regular basis.
  • Conduct observations of and evaluate existing conditions in both the field and via existing historical drawings.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently that require coordination of work between multiple EXP offices, as well as outside consultants.
  • Occasional short-term travel to project sites, usually a single night or two at a time.
  • Flexible hours and hybrid office attendance.

Requirements

  • Targeted experience level is 0-3 years with a focus on building design.
  • Possess a solid understanding of various structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
  • Possess strong Revit skills in both modeling and sheet creation at a minimum.
  • Additional skills on items such as family creation, knowledge of parameter use, and templates is a plus.
  • Working towards EIT/Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures and/or relevant advanced coursework is considered a minimum requirement.
  • Hold excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write persuasively and communicate technical subject matter in a concise and comprehensible manner to a less technical audience.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
