Structural (Bridge) Project Engineer
Dewberry is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Project Engineer located in the Bloomfield, NJ office, conveniently next to several major highways and not far from New York City. Experience with NJDOT and NJTA design standards and current state of practice such as accelerated bridge construction and prefabricated bridge elements are preferred.
About the Role
The successful candidate will manage structural teams and complete designs for simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation-related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures) using applicable software for public clients. Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widenings, and bridge rehabilitation.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design of simple and complex bridges
- Oversee all phases of project development including planning, scheduling, inspection, analysis, design, development of contract plans, cost estimates, and technical specifications and reports
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and drafters as well as coordinate with clients to complete assignments
- Perform structural analysis and design
- Prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications using relevant codes and standards
- Assist in project plans, schedule, and budget preparation
- Utilize structural engineering software (CSiBridge, etc.)
- Mentor less experienced staff
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering (MS in Structural Engineering preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience
- NJ PE license
- Experience working on bridge transportation projects
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
- Strong skills in technical communication and plan preparation
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (driving is a requirement of the position)

Positions within our officer program are eligible for an annual bonus and monthly stipend, both varying based on level and performance. Certain positions are also eligible for overtime pay, while all non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime (subject to approval).
Pay
The projected salary range for this position is $97,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on skills, experience, location, and market conditions. This range applies to NJ only.
