Structural Associate Engineering Technician - Overhead Transmission

This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Line, while building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

• Supports engineering teams under general supervision
• Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
• Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
• Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
• Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
• Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
• Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
• Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
• Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
• Cover coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
• Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
• Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• Intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Experience with digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
• Ability to create, update, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
• Strong attention to detail and ability to support continuous improvement and change management initiatives
• Knowledge of the BV Quality Program
