About the role
At Duke University, the String Bass Instructor (Part-Time) plays a vital role in shaping the musical development of students from elementary through high school in a dynamic pre-collegiate program administered by the Department of Music.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students ranging from beginner to advanced levels
- Select and teach appropriate scales, etudes, and repertoire tailored to each student’s development
- Coach chamber ensembles and support collaborative performance experiences
- Prepare students for solo recitals, concerts, and ensemble performances
- Partner with fellow String School instructors, parents, volunteers, and program leadership to support student success
- Participate in monthly teacher meetings and contribute to program planning and improvement
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Bass Performance, or Music Education
- Demonstrated experience teaching string bass to elementary, middle, and/or high school students
- Experience with both Suzuki and traditional pedagogical methods

Pay
Anticipated hourly rate is $45+/hr.
