Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery including loaders, tool cat, skid steer, backhoe, asphalt pavers, and graders in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and according to specifications.
- Digging out damaged asphalt, patching potholes and street cuts.
- Street overlay and crack-seal operations, concrete repairs on curb, gutters and drainage structures, placing and finishing concrete and gravel.
- Plowing snow, sanding streets, and sweeping streets, gutters and sidewalks.
- Actively plan for projects and take instructions from supervisors.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures on the job site.
Qualifications And Skills
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment operator or a similar role, two years of experience is preferred.
- Valid license to operate City vehicles and heavy machinery is required.
- Must be able to obtain a CDL B license during employment, usually within six months.
- Strong understanding of operational and safety protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in the public sector is preferred, or experience in construction or industrial settings.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions.
- The role requires physical strength and stamina due to the manual nature of the work.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as required.
