Open to current City employees only. Grade 11 – $23.48/hour plus $30/day premium pay while on-call.
Responsibilities
- Driving a snow plow
- Preparing asphalt for patching and repairing roads
- Installing street signs and warning devices
- Painting lines and markings on streets
- Clearing storm drains and catch basins
- Removing trees and debris from roadways
- Setting up cones, barricades, and directional signs
- Flagging and directing traffic
- Operating loader, backhoe, and other equipment
During winter, significant time is committed to snow removal, requiring call-outs and working all hours as needed. You may plow for up to 16 hours at a time. For call-outs, you can choose to accrue comp-time leave or receive overtime pay.
Requirements
- Be age 18 or older
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License (or obtain prior to hire) with a driving record acceptable to Tooele City’s insurability and risk management standards
- Be able to perform physically demanding duties, including bending, lifting up to 45 lbs., pulling, pushing, walking, standing, and operating various equipment
- Work in hot weather on asphalt surfaces
If you do not currently possess a CDL, you must:
- Obtain a CDL medical card within 60 days of assignment
- Pass the written CDL exam within 90 days of assignment
- Obtain a full Class B CDL within 6 months of assignment
If hired without a CDL, Tooele City will cover training costs, but you must sign a Training Reimbursement Agreement Plan. If you resign within one year of obtaining your CDL, you will repay a pro-rated portion of tuition and expenses.
