About the Role

Our streets maintenance division is looking for a new team member. The job duties differ based on the season but provide stable, year-round work close to home. Your work will range from operating heavy equipment to performing routine manual labor. During the winter, much time is committed to snow removal, which will require call-outs and working all hours as needed. You will help improve the safety of our local roadways and may plow for up to 16 hours at a time. For call-outs, you have the option to accrue comp-time leave or receive overtime pay—pick the option that best meets your personal needs.

Responsibilities

  • Driving a snow plow
  • Preparing asphalt for patching and repairing roads
  • Installing street signs and warning devices
  • Painting lines and markings on streets
  • Clearing storm drains and catch basins
  • Removing trees and debris from roadways
  • Setting up cones, barricades, and directional signs
  • Flagging and directing traffic
  • Operating loader, backhoe, and other equipment

Requirements

  • Be age 18 or older
  • Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License (or obtain prior to hire) and a driving record acceptable to Tooele City's insurability and risk management standards
  • Be able to perform duties that are physical in nature with periods of sustained manual labor, including bending, lifting of up to 45 lbs., pulling, pushing, walking, standing, and operation of various equipment
  • Work in hot weather on asphalt surfaces

Qualifications

If you do not currently possess a CDL, as a condition of hire and continued employment, you will need to:

  • Obtain your CDL medical card within 60 days of assignment to the position
  • Pass the written exam within 90 days of assignment
  • Obtain a full Class B CDL within 6 months of assignment

If you do not have a CDL upon hire, Tooele City will pay for your training costs to obtain your CDL, but you will be required to sign a Training Reimbursement Agreement Plan. This requires that you repay a pro-rated reimbursement of tuition and expenses if you resign within one year after attainment.

Additional Information

Tooele City is a drug and alcohol-free workplace. Positions deemed safety-sensitive and/or that require a CDL are subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug/alcohol testing during employment. Background checks, including criminal history checks, are required for applicants age 18 and older. Criminal history records are not an automatic disqualification from employment.

To be employed in a position that requires driving, you must possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License (or obtain prior to hire), have 12 months of driving experience (not including time for a learner's permit), and have a driving record acceptable for Tooele City's insurance and risk management standards.
