Street Outreach Case Manager - Christian Ministry
At OurCalling, our work is rooted in the Gospel and powered by innovation. We are a Christ-centered ministry where every job is a ministry position. We serve individuals experiencing homelessness and crisis through our Street Outreach and Navigation Center, walking with them on a journey from the streets toward hope, stability, and transformation. We meet each person with grace, accountability, and personalized care. We believe that healing happens through trust, relationship, and the hope of Jesus.
About the role
We primarily serve the chronically, unsheltered homeless population. Our homeless friends, or Guests, are survivors who have experienced vast amounts of trauma. We use resources, services, and relationships to create opportunities for gospel-centered conversations. This position, while ministry-focused, deals with the "rawness" of life on the streets. Our Street Outreach Care Ministers crawl under bridges and hike into the woods to find our homeless friends, bring them resources, share the Gospel, pray with them, show them love, and build trust to help them seek assistance in leaving the streets.
Responsibilities
- Drive safely and operate a vehicle for daily outreach, reliably using GPS/navigation tools to locate encampments and field destinations.
- Engage in relational ministry with Guests, establishing trust by delivering on commitments with excellence to help them find pathways off the streets.
- Initiate and intentionally steer conversations toward Christ.
- Become knowledgeable about placement solutions and use motivational skills to help Guests make decisions to leave the streets.
- Serve Guests through crisis intervention and emotional de-escalation.
- Use active listening, approaching conversations as a humble learner rather than immediately suggesting solutions.
- Advise and advocate for homeless Guests navigating social services in Dallas.
- Utilize case management technology to document pertinent personal and situational information about Guests.
- Collaborate with OurCalling’s Placement Solutions Team by following referral and placement procedures to create exit plans for Guests.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED (required).
- Three years of related “life” or ministry experience (required).
- Experience in pastoral care for those struggling with addiction, mental illness, abandonment, homelessness, and poverty (desired).
- Fluency in conversational Spanish (preferred).
- Uphold a close and growing relationship as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Skills & Abilities
- Be patient, long-suffering, and discerning, showing grace to those feeling defeated by cycles of destruction.
- Interact gently and empathetically, managing boundaries and denying requests without offense.
- Demonstrate self-control, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to navigate entitlement attitudes.
- Possess strong biblical knowledge and comfort in teaching, witnessing, discipling, and encouraging others.
- Show maturity, integrity, initiative, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
- Lift up to 20 pounds, drive a van, walk long distances, stoop/kneel, climb stairs, and work in loud or uncomfortable environments (e.g., extreme Texas weather, animals, inclement conditions).
- Use an iPad to enter and track guest information.
- Be humble, listen well, and accept constructive feedback from team members.
A Street Outreach Care Minister’s motivation to serve must include a commitment to building deep relationships, a love for Jesus Christ, and a desire to help the homeless community escape homelessness and grow in their relationship with Christ.
