About the Role
Working under the supervision of the Director, Strategic Pricing, the Manager, Strategic Pricing plays a critical role in managing the financial analytical functions of alternative fee arrangements (AFA) and client/matter profitability. This role involves devising creative alternative fee arrangements, managing the review/approval process, developing reporting capabilities, and implementing strategies for leveraging AFAs to benefit the firm.
Responsibilities
- Work with attorneys, the proposal team, the Senior Director and Director of Strategic Pricing, and the Finance Department to prepare financial and pricing responses to client RFP submissions.
- Collaborate with Department and Practice Group leaders to develop and implement staffing and budget templates for efficient development and evaluation of AFAs for recurring matter types.
- Evaluate the reliability of templates and work with subject matter experts to edit them based on findings.
- Use internal tools to mine information about past investments in different types of work to develop reliable budget estimates and/or AFAs for new opportunities.
- Understand the different types of AFAs available and determine which AFA works best with different areas of law.
- Participate in training practice group leaders and the practice development team on best practices for pricing strategies.
- Shepherd the approval process for pricing requests based on firm guidelines and best practices.
- Supervise the AFA workflow process, including matter intake, financial modeling, evaluation of staffing models, and internal billing practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (required).
- 5+ years of analytical pricing work in a law firm environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain productivity while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment to complete projects and achieve goals.
- Hands-on, self-starter attitude with the drive to establish and maintain credibility among firm partners and decision-makers.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from various sources and apply critical thinking to solve complex problems.
- Strong client service skills for both internal and external contacts, with patience, creativity, and discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Access.

Pay
The full-time salary ranges for this role are as follows (based on a 40-hour work week):
- Atlanta, GA: Not specified.
- Boston, MA: $145,000-$160,000 annually.
- Chicago, IL: $135,000-$149,000 annually.
- Los Angeles, CA: $144,000-$159,000 annually.
- San Francisco, CA: $150,000-$165,000 annually.
- Seattle, WA: $144,000-$159,000 annually.
- Washington, DC: $144,000-$158,000 annually.
