About the role

The role serves as the dedicated finance partner to R&D and G&A leadership, owning the financial relationship with key teams including Engineering, Product, Design, HR, Legal, and Finance. The ideal candidate will understand how headcount plans translate into roadmaps, how infrastructure costs relate to product bets, and how to apply financial rigor to organizations that don't think in quarters.

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial relationship with R&D and G&A leadership, building and maintaining detailed models for headcount, vendor spend, allocated infrastructure costs, and discretionary budgets.
  • Support strategic resource allocation decisions, helping R&D leaders with build vs. buy tradeoffs, team sizing, and investment prioritization, and assisting G&A leaders with vendor contract evaluations, functional scaling ratios, and cost efficiency management.
  • Drive annual planning and ongoing forecasting cycles, translating business priorities into financial plans, managing forecast-to-actuals variance processes, and providing real-time insights to help leaders adjust course.
  • Bring structure to ambiguous investment questions, analyzing complex, qualitative problems with clear financial framing and a point of view, such as evaluating engineering platform investments, sizing legal teams, or assessing people program ROI.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in investment banking, strategic finance, or consulting, preferably with technology companies or organizations where headcount is a primary cost driver.
  • A strong financial modeler capable of building clean, flexible models from scratch and explaining them to non-financial audiences. Good judgment on the level of precision needed for different decisions.
  • Genuine curiosity about how product and engineering organizations function, understanding team structure, infrastructure scaling, and people investments.
  • Ability to build trust quickly with non-finance partners, walking into meetings with engineers or lawyers and asking the right questions to get to the core issues.
  • Comfortable working independently with data, whether through SQL, BI tools, or FP&A platforms, to support analysis without relying on a data team.
  • Effective communicator who can distill complex analyses into clear narratives for leadership teams and knows when to lead with numbers and when to lead with context.
