About the role
At Mercury, we're modernizing banking for startups and ambitious companies. This role involves being the dedicated finance partner to R&D and G&A leadership, owning the financial relationships with key teams, and driving financial planning and forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Own the financial relationship with Engineering, Product, Design, HR, Legal, and Finance teams.
- Understand priorities deeply to anticipate questions and support strategic resource allocation decisions.
- Build and maintain bottoms-up models for headcount and operating expenses, including headcount by team, vendor spend, allocated infrastructure costs, and discretionary budgets.
- Support R&D leaders with build vs. buy tradeoffs, team sizing decisions, and investment prioritization.
- Help G&A leaders evaluate vendor contracts, assess functional scaling ratios, and manage cost efficiency as the company grows.
- Drive annual planning and ongoing forecasting cycles, translating business priorities into financial plans and adjusting course in real time.
- Bring structure to ambiguous investment questions, framing complex, qualitative problems with clear financial perspectives.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, strategic finance, or consulting, preferably with technology companies.
- A strong financial modeler capable of building clean, flexible models from scratch and explaining them to non-financial audiences.
- Genuine curiosity about product and engineering organizations, understanding team structure, infrastructure costs, and people investments.
- Comfortable communicating complex analyses clearly to leadership teams, balancing numbers with context.
Qualifications
- Experience with SQL, BI tools, or FP&A platforms to independently work with data.
- Ability to build trust quickly with non-finance partners, walking into meetings with engineers or lawyers to get to the core issues.
- Competitive total rewards package including base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits.
- Salary range: $128,600 - $160,700 for US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area; $128,600 - $144,600 for US employees outside these areas; CAD 135,000 - 151,900 for Canadian employees.

Pay
- Base salary range: $128,600 - $160,700 for US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area; $128,600 - $144,600 for US employees outside these areas; CAD 135,000 - 151,900 for Canadian employees.
