Stormwater Technician

About the Role

The Storm Water Technician performs semi-skilled manual work, either independently or as part of a crew, involving stormwater system inspections, maintenance, and repairs. This includes inspecting storm drain inlets, yard inlets, pipes, ditches, and streams. The position requires heavy physical labor in various weather conditions and the use of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain positive, organization-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and other internal and external customers.
• Demonstrate appropriate customer service skills.
• Perform physically demanding skilled and unskilled tasks, including:
  • Digging (manually and with equipment).
  • Filling depressions with approved materials (e.g., slag).
  • Debris removal and stormwater runoff/curb grubbing.
  • Maintenance and repair of Best Management Practices (BMPs), such as waddles, track outs, silt fences, check dams, dandy bags, detention basins, and general site cleaning.
• Operate equipment, including trucks, skid steers (training/certification provided), trench machines, hand tools, and backpack blowers.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Complete all other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.
• Means of transportation (as needed).
• General knowledge of construction work sites, PPE, and safety awareness (OSHA guidelines and company standards).
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges.
• Budget-management skills.
• Professional judgment and discretion in customer service and team collaboration.

Physical Demands

• Ability to climb up to four flights of stairs to access work areas.
• Walk several acres to inspect sites.
• Lift 50–75 lbs. daily.
• Operate potentially dangerous equipment.
• Perform physical tasks such as moving furniture, shoveling, raking, lifting, climbing, and walking.
• Adapt to inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods.

Training

• Two-day onboarding in Indianapolis with The Garrett Companies.
• Ongoing support for professional organization memberships and continuing education.

Pay

$45,000 – $55,000 per year
