About the role

The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise personnel and equipment engaged in the construction and maintenance of the City's storm water infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, developing and implementing street and stormwater construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Aid in developing and recommending specifications for equipment, construction materials, and services.
  • Supervise and inspect completed projects by contractors.
  • Coordinate grading and drainage inspection, erosion and sediment control plans and public improvement plans.
  • Manage and enforce safety plan by inspecting and issuing required safety equipment, documents, and mentor staff on corresponding subjects.
  • Operate flood gates and operating valves.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide technical construction project assistance.
  • Manage operational planning, budget oversight, procurement coordination, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Prepare cost estimates, monitor expenditures, evaluate contractor proposals, and ensure compliance with procurement and operational requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison for operational communication, address customer concerns, support public education on stormwater and erosion control practices, and provide on-site leadership to ensure projects and maintenance activities are completed efficiently and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with public safety agencies during emergency situations.
  • Supervise assigned staff.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED or higher and seven (7) years of street, flood control, or storm water construction and/or field operations experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • A valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent from another state by time of application.
  • A Certified Floodplain Manager required within one (1) year of appointment.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: A High School diploma or GED or higher and seven (7) years of street, flood control, or storm water construction and/or field operations experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent from another state by time of application. Certified Floodplain Manager required within one (1) year of appointment.

Skills

  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering and construction plans.
  • Ability to manage budgets and oversee procurement coordination.
  • Experience with stormwater management operations and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.

$65,472.58 - $81,840.72 Annually
