About the role

Intercept supercell thunderstorms across the Great Plains for a research consortium, positioning a mobile mesonet and rapid-scan Doppler radar ahead of rotating storms to capture data on tornadogenesis.

Responsibilities

• Navigate fast-evolving road networks during severe weather events
• Deploy probes and disdrometers in the field
• Stream real-time observations to forecasters
• Maintain crew safety during storm interception

Requirements

• Meteorology coursework
• Calm decision-making under pressure
• Ability to endure long highway days throughout the severe-weather season
