About the Role

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The Supply Chain Operations Division manages the continuous supply of parts, materials, and services required to support Engineering, Mechanical, and Transit Operations. This position reports directly to the Manager, Storehouse, and is responsible for maintaining the continuous operation of the storehouse, including Rail Maintenance Inventory System integrity, safety, security, accuracy, and logistics of inventory.

This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned contract employees (Storeroom Clerks) and conduct daily safety meetings.
• Generate, distribute, and follow up on daily work assignments and training, including forklift and other work equipment.
• Process releases for non-inventory materials and services as requested by management.
• Operate material handling equipment and specialized storage devices to store, load, unload, pick up, and deliver materials throughout Metra.
• Receive inventory and non-inventory material purchases as directed.
• Collaborate with Stores, Materials, Procurement, and Accounts Payable departments to resolve inventory and invoicing exceptions.
• Fulfill daily material requests from storehouse inventory, initiate inventory transfers, restocking, and monitor sales orders on the daily hot list.
• Process repair and return materials per procedure.
• Perform cycle counting as directed and document inventory movement within the inventory management system.
• Add items to storage locations and monitor inventory integrity and movement within the storehouse.
• Flexible availability, including non-operating hours, weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on-call status.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of warehouse experience.
• Basic knowledge of coach, locomotive, and engineering materials, equipment, and parts.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Type 25 words per minute.
• Possess and maintain a valid Class “C” driver’s license.
• Forklift certification OR ability to be certified within the 30-day qualification period.
• Able to lift 50 pounds waist high.

Preferences

• Experience supervising contract personnel in a railroad or other transportation-based storehouse or warehouse environment.
• Experience in computerized Inventory Management Systems, ERP, RMIS, and Global PO systems.

Pay

Salary Range: $35.77 - $44.72 per hour.
