About the role

The Store Manager is responsible for all facets of store operations and directly influences the performance of everyone who interacts with guests. Using elements of GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Circle of Life, the Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest, and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming. This position supervises a retail staff which may vary based upon store size, location(s), and expected sales volume.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead in a multi-unit capacity.
  • Provide and model best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions/concerns courteously, assist guests with video gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, and thank guests for shopping.
  • Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, sales initiatives, and guest relationships.
  • Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, including handling cash and providing receipts.
  • Respond to guest comments/questions in person or on the phone promptly and professionally.
  • Promote GameStop’s guest benefits, such as the new title reservations program, trade-in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, assess, develop, and retain high-performing associates.
  • Ensure associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before working shifts independently.
  • Communicate regularly with store associates and District Manager to implement GameStop initiatives.
  • Set guest service expectations and train associates in job responsibilities, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates, Retail Keyholders, and Assistant Store Managers.
  • Schedule store associates, ensuring compliance with guidelines and accounting for breaks/meals.
  • Supervise staffing levels to maintain optimum guest service.
  • Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and verify accurate payment for all hours worked.
  • Provide timely performance feedback and recognition to associates.
  • Ensure store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per company guidelines.
  • Fulfill and ship Omni-Channel orders daily.
  • Perform store inventory counts, restock merchandise, and organize the sales floor.
  • Protect company assets through inventory control, loss prevention, and safety practices.
  • Lead the store team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals.
  • Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transactions in the POS system.
  • Complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits accurately and daily.
  • Verify shipments for discrepancies and conduct merchandise inventories.
  • Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately.
  • Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; address hazardous situations promptly.
  • Maintain organized store records and up-to-date manuals.
  • Form professional partnerships with military personnel (for stores on military bases).
  • Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
  • At least 1 year of retail management experience required.
  • At least 3 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or leadership experience preferred.
  • Video game knowledge preferred.

Skills

  • Outgoing and welcoming personality with strong people skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.
  • Meet leadership performance expectations, including attendance, appearance, and workplace respect.
  • Operate Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system and perform basic mathematics.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and follow written/oral instructions.
  • Execute financial tasks per company policy.
  • Adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and manage pressure constructively.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and able to use good judgment.
  • Ability to stand and move unassisted for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Bend, stoop, crouch, stretch, reach, climb ladders, and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Working understanding of military ranks and insignia (for stores on military bases).

Schedule

Work 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work extended hours/days as necessary, including nights, weekends, some holidays, and occasional overtime.
