About the Role
The Store Manager is responsible for all facets of store operations and directly influences the performance of everyone who interacts with guests. Using elements of GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest, providing outstanding guest service experiences, and supporting the overall store environment to meet or exceed sales and profit goals.
This position supervises a retail staff which may vary based upon store size, location(s), and expected sales volume, and may manage and lead in a multi-unit capacity.
Responsibilities
- Provide and model best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions/concerns courteously, assist guests with video gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, and thank guests for shopping at GameStop.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and return transactions accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, including handling cash and providing receipts.
- Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone, using professional phone etiquette.
- Promote GameStop’s guest benefits, such as the new title reservations program, trade-in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
- Recruit, interview, hire, assess, develop, and retain high-performing associates, ensuring they complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before working shifts independently.
- Communicate regularly with store associates and District Manager to implement GameStop store initiatives according to plan.
- Set guest service expectations, train associates on job responsibilities, company policies, and procedures, and supervise tasks delegation to Sales Associates, Retail Keyholders, and Assistant Store Managers.
- Schedule store associates following guidelines, ensuring all breaks and meals are accounted for, and maintain optimal staffing levels for guest service.
- Approve payroll, enter paid time off, make time edits, and verify associates are paid for all time worked.
- Provide timely and appropriate recognition and feedback to associates, including written feedback in the HR system.
- Ensure all store areas, including restrooms, are neat, clean, organized, and merchandised per company guidelines, and that fixtures and equipment are in working order.
- Fulfill and ship Omni-Channel orders daily.
- Perform store inventory counts, stock/restock merchandise, and ensure products are organized and alphabetized on the sales floor.
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control, loss prevention practices, scam awareness, and safety protocols, including inspecting associates' belongings as needed.
- Lead the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals, and complete required administrative and operational duties.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transactions accurately in the POS system, complete closeout paperwork, and make bank deposits daily or per guidelines.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, conduct merchandise counts, and report discrepancies to the District Manager.
- Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately and promptly.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, address hazardous situations, and report injuries per company guidelines.
- Maintain organized store records and files, ensuring manuals are up to date.
- Form professional partnerships with military personnel on assigned bases (applies to stores on military bases).
- Adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including those in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Requirements
- Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 1 year of retail management experience required; at least 3 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or leadership experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Operate Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system and possess basic mathematics and alphabetizing skills.

- Adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and manage pressure constructively.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to use good judgment; ability to work alone.
- Physical ability to stand and move throughout the store for up to 12 hours per day, bend, stoop, crouch, balance, stretch, reach, climb ladders, and lift merchandise up to 30 lbs. from ground level to a minimum height of 4 feet.
- Working understanding of military ranks and insignia (applies to stores on military bases).
Schedule
Work 40 hours per week, with flexibility to work extended hours/days as necessary, including nights, weekends, some holidays, and occasional overtime.
