About the role

The Store Manager position is responsible for the overall management and direction of the store and team in accordance with all policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. The role also involves ensuring financial results of the store, including sales, on-site donations (OSDs), expenses, and profits, meet or exceed target.

  • Have a constant focus on growing the business through full utilization of every OK, followed by increasing OK volume as appropriate.
  • Achieves results through management team, as well as by working side-by-side, hands-on, with the broader store team.
  • The SM role-models expected behavior and continually observes, assesses, trains, coaches, and counsels’ performance.
  • The Store Manager is guided by the Savers Vision and Core Values.
  • Ensure store performance meets targets in sales, profit, OSDs, production, and productivity based on annual performance expectations for the store.
  • Continually monitor and set the pace of work.
  • Have awareness of corporate objectives and an understanding of local market potential.
  • Analyze key metrics and information, tie findings to observations and take appropriate action.
  • Inspect sales floor for shop-ability and ensure productivity of merchandise.
  • Lead, direct, and supervise the work of the management team and through them to entire team.
  • Oversee Production Manager and Retail Sales Manager in proactively planning staffing needs, recruiting, selecting and training team members at all levels.
  • Regularly observe, assess, interact, coach and counsel the team.
  • Identify and develop high potential team members for all management positions through on-the-job, guided work.
  • Maintain a respectful values-driven workplace.
  • Use open communication tools and convert team member input into meaningful action.
  • Address complaints and resolve issues consistent with our values, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide recognition and candid feedback.
  • Receive and relay business information, initiatives, expectations, priorities, etc.
  • Manage full utilization of the OK to maximize sales and profit potential.
  • Inspect execution of the Morning Maintenance program to ensure sales floor is ready for business each morning, search for and leverage key lessons from unsold merchandise.
  • Audit merchandise and prices rolled to and off the floor.
  • Provide oversight for the work schedules to meet and exceed both customer and donor expectations.
  • Ensure the execution of merchandise standards and initiatives, as well as sales & marketing promotions.
  • Ensure that the sales floor/donor areas are continuously monitored, and team member activity is directed, to ensure that standards are met.
  • Plan and implement seasonal backstock, merchandising and other strategic programs.
  • Ensure the Savers' recycling program is fully leveraged to reduce landfill and allow for further reuse of unsold/un-saleable items.
  • Execute all company standards in the Community Donation Center (CDC), Donation Drive Fundraiser (DDF), and Get to Give programs.
  • Oversee efforts inside and outside the store to create community awareness of the CDC, the company brand and the benefits of donating to Savers.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations that are seeking cash fundraising opportunities and partner with them on DDF events.
  • Develop partnerships and community awareness with local non-profit organizations (e.g. schools, shelters) that may benefit from free receipt of merchandise that the store would otherwise recycle.
  • Deliver a positive and unforgettable customer/donor experience by setting the example for, as well as training and coaching, customer and donor service expectations, working with all members of management to ensure execution.
  • Receive and respond to customer/donor questions, requests, and complaints.
  • Ensure a quick, accurate and positive cash register experience for customers.
  • Ensure a quick and informative experience for donors.
  • Guide the RSM in implementing the set-up of sales and marketing promotions & programs.
  • Absorb and assist donors per Company standards.
  • Protect company assets and information by ensuring their safe handling, security and integrity.
  • Proactively promote loss prevention awareness by upholding procedures and ensuring policies are in place.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through education, consistent follow up, ensuring policies and procedures are in place, and supporting the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Responsible for the overall management and direction of all supervisors and team members in accordance with Savers’ policies and applicable laws.
  • This includes implementing and administering company programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Able to make decisions and take reasonable action in the absence of the District Manager and/or corporate support to ensure successful store operation.
  • Leverages regional resources as appropriate.
  • Perform any other task, function or responsibility as instructed by their immediate supervisor and/or superior manager of the Company.

Requirements

  • High School diploma: post-Secondary degree/diploma preferred.
  • 3+ years results-driven retail store management, or industrial management experience.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to observe, assess and coach the work of others.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or verbal form.
  • Ability to reason, make decisions, and use independent judgment in various situations.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
