About the role

Responsible for all aspects of the store's operations. Leads the entire operation of the store to ensure Company standards and best practices are consistently met. Staffs, trains, and develops the leadership team to deliver desired sales and profit results while maintaining a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. Recruits, trains, and develops associates. Manages stockroom, front-end, and sales floor operations to ensure timely merchandise flow, proper goods receipt, and expense management through best practices and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • General Operating Requirements: Leads all Company best practices and maximizes productivity by minimizing steps and touches. Analyzes store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance. Addresses variances to Company standards with action plans, partnering with the District Manager as needed. Ensures proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives. Accepts special assignments as directed by leadership. Manages payroll administration, including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and reporting.
  • Organizational Development: Recruits, hires, trains, and develops Assistant Managers, Area Supervisors, and non-exempt associates. Strives to reduce store turnover through selection, training, and motivation. Utilizes retention tools such as incentive programs, recognition opportunities, contests, and training. Ensures required training courses are prioritized and completed. Addresses personnel and performance issues, including coaching, warnings, progressive discipline, and termination. Ensures compliance with Ross personnel policies and all state, local, and federal regulations. Manages associate relations issues in consultation with the District Manager.
  • Expense Control: Ensures all expenditures stay within budget. Controls payroll hours as the primary controllable expense, adjusting to business trends.
  • Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment: Ensures adherence to Company safety policies and the safety of associates and customers. Ensures all associates understand and can execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Customer Service: Treats all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, courtesy, and professionalism. Recognizes associates using Company programs. Executes customer service and merchandise presentation programs through training and supervision. Coaches retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
  • Personal and Store Brand: Leads and models professional appearance in accordance with the Company dress code. Reinforces dress code standards. Represents and supports the Company brand. Ensures a clean, neat, and easy-to-shop environment. Maintains high housekeeping standards with contracted maintenance personnel and associates.
  • Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing: Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet Company standards. Assigns tasks and follows up per best practices. Ensures merchandise is presented and organized according to Company guidelines. Manages merchandise processing to the sales floor within expected timeframes.
  • Loss Prevention: Trains associates on loss prevention programs to achieve store shortage goals. Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions. Safeguards confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise. Complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong customer service presence on the sales floor. Leads the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of guidelines. Monitors mark-out-of-stock policy administration.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of store management experience in a retail environment.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Ability to lead, manage, motivate, and communicate positively with associates at all levels.
  • Ability to train, coach, and develop associates.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to achieve goals and execute tasks.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Competencies: Manages work processes, business acumen, planning, alignment, prioritization, talent development, collaboration, leading by example, communication, accountability, and execution.
  • Physical Requirements/ADA: Ability to use store equipment (PDTs, registers, PCs). Ability to stand, walk, and move around for up to 100% of working time. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly. Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs. Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of Assistant Store Manager, Area Supervisors, and all retail associates.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $66,720 - $104,250. The range depends on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. Other rewards vary by position and location.
