About the role
Responsible for the overall profitability and oversight of the store, managing the details of daily operations across all departments. Uses judgement and discretion daily to make important decisions affecting store operations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the work of Department Heads to ensure efficient and profitable operation of the store.
- Determine that company-approved prices are in effect in assigned departments.
- Recommend actions to correct unsatisfactory expense ratios and sales performance in assigned departments.
- Recommend procedural changes to enable stores to operate more effectively and maintain lower labor costs.
- Ensure department compliance with city codes, health regulations, weights and measures regulations, insurance company standards, and company standards.
- Enforce an effective safety program and monitor an efficient security control program within the departments and store.
- Maintain cleanliness of the store in all areas, including work and storage areas (exterior and interior), building (exterior and interior), parking lot, and sales area.
- Report on competitive pricing conditions, changes in store hours, or the opening/closing of important competitors.
- Develop and maintain strong departmental organization within the store.
- Ensure the store conforms to company policy and government regulations.
- Establish and implement personnel training programs.
- Interview, select, and train employees.
- Set and adjust pay rates and work hours for subordinates.
- Resolve employees’ complaints and grievances.
- Direct, evaluate, and discipline employees as appropriate.
- Plan, distribute, and determine work techniques for subordinates.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs and meal/break regulations for all employees.
- Initiate and recommend merchandising plans and promotions in assigned departments.
- Report on the merchandising plans of competitors.
- Recommend capital expenditures and department remodeling as needed for profitable operation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Thorough knowledge of the retail food business.
- Five to ten years of experience in the retail food business, with at least two years as a Store Department Head or Store Manager.
- Thorough knowledge of merchandising, display, and product quality control.
- Ability to set up and organize departments within a retail food store.
- Ability to train, organize, motivate, and discipline employees.
- Ability to understand and operate within company policies and governmental regulations.
Pay
Range: $82,000 to $125,000 annually.
