Position Purpose
The Store Director is responsible for leading all aspects of store operations to ensure exceptional customer service, sales growth, profitability, operational excellence, and employee development. This position provides overall leadership for the store, drives execution of company strategies, develops high-performing teams, and creates a safe, customer-focused environment that delivers outstanding business results and supports company objectives.
Responsibilities
- Store Leadership & Operations
- Direct all daily store operations to ensure company standards and objectives are achieved.
- Provide leadership and direction to department managers, supervisors, and store associates.
- Execute company initiatives, operational strategies, and business plans.
- Ensure all departments maintain high standards of service, merchandising, inventory management, and operational readiness.
- Monitor store conditions and implement improvements to drive efficiency and performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Customer Service
- Champion a customer-first culture throughout the store.
- Ensure customers receive exceptional service in every department.
- Respond to and resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and implement strategies to enhance the shopping experience.
- Promote customer loyalty through consistent service and operational excellence.
- Sales & Merchandising
- Lead efforts to achieve sales, market share, and profitability goals.
- Ensure merchandising programs, promotional events, and seasonal initiatives are executed effectively.
- Monitor store sales performance and develop strategies to drive growth.
- Ensure departments maintain strong in-stock conditions, product quality, and presentation standards.
- Partner with department leaders to maximize sales opportunities and customer engagement.
- Financial Accountability
- Manage overall store profitability, including sales, labor, operating expenses, and shrink.
- Analyze financial performance and develop action plans to improve results.
- Ensure labor resources are effectively allocated to meet customer and operational needs.
- Monitor budgets and control expenses while maintaining service standards.
- Drive productivity improvements and operational efficiencies throughout the store.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop department leaders and associates.
- Build a high-performing leadership team through mentoring and succession planning.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable for results.
- Conduct performance reviews and development discussions.
- Promote employee engagement, recognition, and retention initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive and positive workplace culture.
- Operational Excellence
- Ensure compliance with company operating procedures and standards.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, and execution across all departments.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Support inventory control, loss prevention, and shrink reduction efforts.
- Ensure store equipment, facilities, and assets are maintained properly.
- Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, food safety regulations, workplace safety requirements, and legal standards.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and employees.
- Lead accident prevention and workplace safety initiatives.
- Ensure proper investigation and documentation of incidents.
- Support emergency preparedness and store security procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization.
- Community & Business Leadership
- Represent the store and company professionally within the community.
- Support community engagement programs, charitable events, and local partnerships.
- Build positive relationships with customers, employees, vendors, and business partners.
- Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and ethical leadership.
- Promote company values and organizational objectives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Extensive retail management experience required.
- Previous grocery retail leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success in managing sales, profitability, operations, and personnel.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in scheduling, reporting, financial analysis, and operational systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of merchandise up to company standards.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to work in various store environments, including refrigerated and freezer areas.
- Ability to safely operate store equipment and assist departments when needed.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
