STJ-Security Officer I

Responsibilities

• Maintain consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide information and directional assistance to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Respond to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for information or assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
• Provide physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Monitor and maintain traffic flow in parking areas and roadways, assist disabled vehicles, issue parking permits, and warn of violations.
• Protect people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft, and vandalism in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Perform routine building rounds, building door unlocks, and exterior building and parking lot patrols.
• Make recommendations to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
• Report suspicious situations, incidents, and persons according to policy.
• Assist during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost‑and‑found matters.
• Document activities, incidents, safety observations, accidents, theft, vandalism, and other data in a factual, objective, and legible manner.
• Respond to emergency situations such as assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, and disasters.
• Perform patient restraint as directed by clinical staff and provide physical intervention when appropriate.
• Operate hospital‑owned vehicles safely and responsibly, including performing vehicle inspections.
• Additional duties may include incident investigation, crowd control, disaster response, parking enforcement, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, traffic direction, policy enforcement, alarm investigation, duress response, tire changing, battery jumps, radio communication, loss prevention, and posting assignments for exterior patrols.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License
• Certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire
• State criminal background check (and Federal check if applicable) for regulated areas
• Taser User certification
• Handcuffing tactics training
• OC Spray certification
• AVADE Training Levels I – III

Preferred Qualifications

• Security or safety‑related certification or education
• Prior experience in the security field
• Three (3) years of experience in healthcare security

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for the entire shift (or double shift)
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 80 pounds
• Ability to tolerate adverse environmental conditions for the entire shift (or double shift)
