STI Surveillance Epidemiologist I

Location: Oklahoma City - 123 Robert S Kerr Avenue

Full time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Being present in the office is an essential function of the position.

About the role

This position performs duties in support of the statutorily required duties of the Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Service. The STI Surveillance Epidemiologist will conduct active and passive surveillance activities for STIs, including syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, utilizing multiple software tools (SAS, SQL, MS Excel, Power BI, etc.) to perform data linkages, quality assurance, and analysis. This position also supports HIV Prevention and Surveillance efforts by assisting with data analysis required for syndemic response in Oklahoma.

Responsibilities

• Review STI laboratory tests for possible new infections or missing laboratory results/information.
• Review, classify and close completed STI cases.
• Assist with data quality assurance activities across all STIs, including follow-up on priority cases where no treatment is documented.
• Assist with presentations regarding basic epidemiological information for STIs.
• Analyze basic surveillance data using SAS, SQL, Microsoft Excel, or other software programs.
• Assist in processing data requests; providing clear and concise results.
• Assist with program evaluation by providing data collection and analysis.
• Receive, review, and compile complex statistical data; compile and edit data for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and arrange statistical tables and charts for compilation into manuals, handbooks, reports, and dashboards.
• Assist in creation of tables and graphs to be posted on the agency website/dashboards.
• Analyze and interpret data using statistical research programs or other methods, and make projections based on statistical inference.
• Participate in the Congenital Syphilis Review Board and Task Force meetings.
• Follow-up on specified gonorrhea cases to obtain key information for the enhanced gonorrhea surveillance project through patient and/or provider interview.
• Demonstrate knowledge of and support mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
• Work effectively in a team environment, participating and assisting peers.

Requirements

At this level, a master’s degree in public health, statistics, mathematics, or health science is required, which includes:

• 6 semester hours in epidemiological or statistical methods.
• 6 semester hours of other epidemiological or statistical coursework.
• 9 semester hours in statistical or epidemiological analysis.

Skills

• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly and perform simple arithmetic problems.
• Proficiency in operating basic computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to write simple reports, follow oral or written instructions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of epidemiology methods, human biology, laboratory methods, environmental analyses interpretation, parasitology, toxicology, immunology, and pathology.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, statistical analysis, biometry, demography, and epidemiological or statistical software.
• Knowledge of social and economic conditions and current epidemiological developments and techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, meet with the public, and conduct public information programs.
• Ability to write technical and non-technical information material.
• Proficiency in using a personal computer and applicable software.

Pay

Up to $67,600.00, based on education and experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate control and moderate noise levels. The position requires:

• Long periods of sitting and daily use of a computer and phone.
• Talking, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Some work-related travel.
