Responsibilities
- Serves as epidemiologist on the team responsible for a wide range of epidemiologic and surveillance activities.
- Point of contact for national multi-site clinical epi studies, mortality and morbidity, clinical progression, impact of vaccines and medical countermeasures, assisting in tracking the duration of the studies, circulation of the virus, and availability of the vaccine.
- Design and draft technical direction/consultation and public health assistance at the Federal, State and local level regarding influenza surveillance and a variety of associated epidemiologic and analytic projects.
- Assist with processing and preparing data for weekly publications across multiple different data sources.
- Analyze influenza disease trends and CDC’s ability to integrate data reporting on existing platforms.
- Evaluate data dictionaries and quality control reports to assess progress of data cleaning and validation activities.
- Provide assistance to project sites in developing and following CDC required policies and procedures; manage data from studies; and review project reports for compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare verbal and written summaries of data, data quality / data completeness reports.
- Aid in the writing and preparation of statistical and analytical reports for weekly surveillance reports as well as for peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Qualifications
- Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Strong aptitude for processing, working with, and evaluating data from multiple sources. Attention to detail is a must. Ability to translate complex problems clearly and in nontechnical terms effectively internally and externally. Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally. Demonstrated ability to decipher and organize large databases. Able to summarize analysis results, draws conclusions, and identifies potential recommendations. Great judgment and decision making, with analytical skills; business intuition and business acumen.
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field. 3-5 years of hands-on experience in epidemiology and/or epidemiological research and studies. Highly detailed and organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Highly proficient in using various statistical software (SAS, R, SQL.). Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in interpersonal exchanges. Advanced use of Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher).
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field. Experience with Power BI, Python and Databricks is a plus but is not required. 5+ years of hands-on experience in epidemiology and/or epidemiological research and studies. Prior experience working with the CDC is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.
