Epidemiology Investigator 2, STI Surveillance (PN20014187)

About the role

Join the Ohio Department of Health’s STI Surveillance team to help combat high-reported diseases such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and the rising concern of syphilis. As an Epidemiology Investigator, you will apply your epidemiological training to protect and improve the health of Ohioans.

Responsibilities

• Investigate STI occurrence (routine or outbreak) by conducting or monitoring data collection (interviews, medical record abstraction, etc.).
• Interpret and analyze data to determine cause and spread of diseases.
• Monitor specimen collection, laboratory delivery, and reporting of results for special study projects.
• Conduct computerized statistical analysis using SAS and/or other programs.
• Produce and distribute reports, including infographics.
• Forward or fulfill data requests as directed.
• Conduct and coordinate electronic data transmissions, including electronic lab reporting.
• Tabulate and analyze epidemiological data using standard statistical measures (e.g., variability, statistical significance, incidence, and prevalence rates).
• Assist in the development of database projects, including database quality control.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of data reported to the Ohio Department of Health.
• Collaborate with public health professionals, laboratories, and healthcare providers to improve STI surveillance and reporting.
• Assist with training users on data systems and develop training materials.
• Represent the team in meetings/conferences and make presentations to public health professionals and/or the public.

Unusual Working Conditions

• May require travel.
• May be away from home and normal work site up to 30 days during emergencies.
• May be exposed to contagious and communicable diseases and toxic or hazardous chemicals.

Requirements

• Completion of a graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine.
• Three courses or 9 months' experience using statistical computer software packages.
• One course or 3 months' experience in epidemiology.
• One course or 3 months' experience in physiology.
• One course or 3 months' experience in statistics.
• One course or 3 months' experience in human relations.
• One course or 3 months' experience in interviewing.
• Six months' experience working in research or a specific laboratory identifying or researching infectious or chronic diseases and/or related environmental health problems.
• Must be able to provide own transportation.
• OR 6 months' experience as an Epidemiology Investigator 1 (65761) with the State of Ohio.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine.
• Experience in data management and monitoring.
• Experience with database computer software packages (e.g., Access, Excel).
• Experience with statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, or SPSS).
• One course in Biostatistics.
• Training or experience working with programs related to STIs or other infectious diseases.
• Experience creating tables, figures, graphs, or charts displaying health-related data.

Pay

$31.47 per hour (hourly position, pay range 32 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule).

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
