About the role
Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation, GSC, is a provider of food service, janitorial, and administrative services. We support the National Science Foundation-managed United States Antarctic Program through the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). We are now hiring a Steward Coordinator (Food Services) at the South Pole Station.
Responsibilities
- Supervise McMurdo steward staff by organizing tasking, special projects, supply orders, and ensuring duties are conducted safely, efficiently, and positively.
- Set pre-season expectations and conduct post-season evaluations of Lead Dining Attendants and Stewards as required by the Culinary Manager and/or Lodging Manager.
- Assist the Culinary Manager in envisioning and implementing new team initiatives, providing leadership and support for the team.
- Communicate staffing, tasking, and equipment issues clearly to Lead Dining Attendants to manage meal services smoothly and efficiently.
- Manage scheduling of Lead Dining Attendants and Stewards and assist with applicable duties as required.
- Track physical conditions of staff, adjusting tasking as needed for light duty and special requirements.
- Fill in for the dining facility as needed.
- Organize special projects for Lead Dining Attendants.
- Conduct inventories as requested.
- Research and ensure proper and safe usage of cleaning products utilized by stewards.
- Handle confidential matters in accordance with management policy.
- Interact professionally and tactfully with the National Science Foundation, military, and other agency officials.
- Coordinate with other GSC departments to assign stewards special tasking and communicate with Lead Dining Attendants about departmental needs.
- May perform duties requiring repetitive motion.
- Must be able to lift the safety regulation maximum on limited basis.
- Implement and maintain a safe workplace program and ensure safety is prioritized.
- Report safety issues, including soreness, injuries, and near misses.
- Support the achievement of GSC metrics.
- Comply with GSC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Work towards achieving GSC goals and contractual commitments.
- Lead and motivate the team.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED.
- Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid U.S. Passport.
- A minimum of two years of work experience in hotel or restaurant-related industries.
- One year supervisory experience required.
- Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted in lieu of minimum experience.
- US citizenship and permanent residency required.
- A favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result is required before deployment.
