Steward

About the role

Flour Bakery + Cafe is looking for dining‑room stewards for full‑time and part‑time positions. The steward reports to the bakery Kitchen Manager and receives direction from the FOH manager and FOH assistant manager. The role provides ultimate hospitality, ensuring guests have everything they need while keeping the bakery fully stocked and clean.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and organize the condiment station, refilling water, milk, syrups, lemons, etc.
• Stock utensils, plates, napkins, and other dining supplies.
• Remove full compost, recycling, and trash from the dining room and keep trash areas clean.
• Restock bathrooms with toilet paper and paper towels; keep bathroom floors, sinks, mirrors, and toilets clean.
• Clean glass windows and doors, removing smudges.
• Clear tables promptly after guests leave to provide a clean seating area.
• Bus guests’ dirty dishes as needed.
• Sweep kitchen, dining room, sandwich station line, walk‑ins, and freezers throughout the day, keeping all areas clean and dry.
• Act as dishwasher during specific shifts, provide break coverage, and handle high‑volume dish periods.
• Assist the chef with prep or cleaning tasks during downtime.
• Perform rounds every 15 minutes to address the above tasks throughout the shift.

Requirements

• Excellent sense of urgency and hospitality.
• Ability to recognize when and where further cleaning is needed to meet standards.
• Receptive to feedback and direction.
• Maintain grooming and uniform standards.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, reach, and lift.
• Operate equipment such as a dishwasher and cleaning tools.
• Availability for at least 3 shifts/20 hours per week, including at least one weekend shift.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with all departments.
• Commitment to a minimum of one year (no seasonal or temporary work).

Work environment

The position involves working in an environment with loud noises, machinery, various aromas, and fluctuating temperatures. While Flour strives to avoid cross‑contamination, gluten may be present in the air at times. The bakery accommodates staff allergy requests whenever possible.

Pay

Starting pay is $17 per hour, with a total pay range of $17 – $21.86.
