Job Overview
This position can independently decontaminates, cleans, prepares, retrieves, and sterilizes surgical items and equipment. This position also stores and issues supplies in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. This position must have complete knowledge to use specific mechanical equipment, such as, sonic cleaners, washer sterilizers, EtO, Sterrad, Steris, and other specialized equipment; must also have extensive knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and adhere to guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
- Mentors/orients new staff and acts as a resource to Sterile Supply Technician I.
- Uses and mentors new team members in proper sterilization methods for all items being processed; completes sterilization records and processes biologicals according to policy to support the sterilization method used.
- Trains new team members in inventory management, including proper storage of supplies, checking for outdates, rotating stock, and placing instrument trays, sets, and peel packs in their correct locations while maintaining storage standards.
- Trains new team members on how to inspect, assemble, wrap, and properly label instrument sets, trays, and other items for processing according to policy and provided instructions.
- Trains new team members to inspect all scopes, cords, and power sets for proper functioning, ensuring cords, adapters, and related components are correct and operational.
- Trains new team members on proper breakdown and decontamination of instrument sets and case carts according to established procedures and provided information.
- Supports ongoing adherence to sterilization, assembly, inspection, and decontamination standards by guiding new team members through proper techniques and policies.
