Sterile Processing Technician I - Main Sterile Processing Dept - Part Time - Evenings

Responsibilities

• Performs instrument decontamination functions: disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment using correct manual and mechanical processes.
• Operates decontamination equipment, such as sonic washer, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators.
• Transports case carts from soiled holding area in surgery to the decontamination room, unloads case carts, and places them in designated areas.
• Unloads instruments from washer sterilizers and distributes them to appropriate workstations.
• Utilizes SPM to assemble trays and packs, checks for sharpness and proper functioning of instruments, and applies sterilization wrappers correctly.
• Makes rounds throughout the facility to retrieve reusable instruments and equipment and transports them back to the Sterile Processing Department.
• Builts surgical case carts: obtains procedural preferences, labels instruments and supplies, and distributes carts to specified areas.
• Restocks, stores, or returns equipment to patient care areas as necessary.
• Inspects equipment during cleaning process for signs of wear and disrepair, and coordinates reporting of such equipment to Clinical Engineering and CS Supervisor.
• Fulfills requests from OR core areas when requested, responds to emergency codes when required, and follows instructions and departmental guidelines regarding sterility.
• Attends departmental-in-services and mandatory meetings, acts as a liaison between Central Service and all customers, and communicates in a courteous manner.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and skills required to perform the position duties.
• Specialized knowledge or skills, which are REQUIRED to perform the position duties.
• Preferred but not required: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) license within the first year of hire.
