Responsibilities
- Performs instrument decontamination functions: disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment using correct manual and mechanical processes.
- Operates decontamination equipment, such as sonic washer, cart washers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators.
- Transports case carts from soiled holding area in surgery to the decontamination room, unloads case carts, and places them in designated areas.
- Unloads instruments from washer sterilizers and distributes them to appropriate workstations.
- Utilizes SPM to assemble trays and pack instruments according to standards and procedures.
- Checks for sharpness and proper functioning of instruments, recognizes and memorizes a large variety of instruments, and applies sterilization wrappers correctly.
- Monitors and documents biological and chemical indicator results to ensure sterilization parameters are met.
- Builts surgical case carts: obtains procedural preferences, labels location of instruments and supplies, and distributes carts to specified areas.
- Decontaminates equipment used for patient care, inspects for wear and disrepair, and coordinates reporting of such equipment to Clinical Engineering and CS Supervisor.
- Fulfills requests from OR core areas and responds to emergency codes when required.
- Attends departmental in-services and mandatory meetings, acts as a liaison between Central Service and all customers, and communicates effectively.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills required to perform position duties.
- Specialized knowledge or skills, which are REQUIRED to perform the position duties.
- Preferred, must be obtained within the first year of hire: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Years of experience: 0-1 years as a Certified Technician.
