Sterile Processing Technician

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, sterilization, inspection, assembly, and distribution of reusable medical equipment
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and store surgical instruments and RME
  • Identify and replace damaged instruments
  • Perform sterilization and high-level disinfection processes, including steam, Sterrad, VPRO, Medivator, Trophon, and Cidex OPA
  • Conduct biological and chemical testing, Bowie-Dick testing, and required QA documentation
  • Handle flexible endoscopes and follow manufacturer Instructions for Use
  • Support instrument processing for surgical specialties including general surgery, GYN, orthopedics, ENT, urology, vascular, dental, robotics, and podiatry
  • Use instrument tracking systems, including Censitrac, to capture workload and instrument tracking data
  • Follow infection control, PPE, OSHA, biological testing, and VA safety requirements
  • Perform physical duties including standing, lifting, pushing carts, and working in hot, humid, loud environments while wearing PPE

Requirements

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
  • Certification from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
  • Graduate from a recognized CRCST or sterile processing technician program with 2+ years of SPS experience
  • VA Level 1 certification with 2+ years of SPS experience
  • 5+ years of verifiable hands-on SPS experience, even if non-certified
  • Decontamination, sterilization, and high-level disinfection
  • Surgical instrument inspection, assembly, and storage
  • Infection control procedures
  • Steam autoclave processes and sterilization QA
  • Biological indicators and chemical indicators
  • Bowie-Dick test use and interpretation
  • Flexible endoscope handling
  • Surgical tray and instrument support across multiple specialties
  • Censitrac or similar instrument tracking system experience
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to other sites to perform reprocessing tasks as needed

Schedule

  • This requirement includes three weekday tours:
  • Tour 1: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM EST
  • Tour 2: Monday–Friday, 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM EST
  • Tour 3: Monday–Friday, 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM EST
  • Full-time onsite coverage required
  • 30-minute unpaid meal break for shifts over 6 hours
  • No overtime expected/authorized in the current schedule language
  • No holiday pay authorized
  • Schedule changes require notice and may shift based on government need
