Sterile Processing Technician
About the role
Responsible for ensuring patient care and surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in quality and timely manner throughout the health system.
Follows all standard operating procedures (SOP) and policies and Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines. Able to recognize potential and actual processing errors and follow-up according to procedure or management instruction. Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and maintains continuity in work flow. Utilizes applicable inventory systems in use.
Responsibilities
- Ensures proper inventory, decontamination, assembly, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, and tracking of patient care and surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments.
- Follows all standard operating procedures (SOP) and policies and Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines.
- Recognizes and addresses potential and actual processing errors according to procedure or management instruction.
- Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and maintains continuity in work flow.
- Utilizes applicable inventory systems in use.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 12 months experience in Sterile Processing and /or Central Distribution is strongly preferred.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, and must have strong communication and computer skills.
- Certification in Central Service Technology is strongly preferred to have or obtain.
