Job Responsibilities
- Instrument decontamination, assembly and sterilization of the following surgical specialties: general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular and orthopedic surgery.
- Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery as necessary, including use of various methods of sterilization.
- Monitors and tracks surgical instruments using computer automated instrument tracking log/system, performs record keeping for all sterilization processes.
- Checks expiration dates on all sterile supply items, removes outdated items, and rotates the stock on a “first in, first out” basis.
- Maintains and restocks Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) cart exchange program including transportation of CPR carts in emergency situations and maintaining supplies and documentation.
- Assembles and disassembles instrumentation and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions for use (MIFU).
- Performs daily and weekly cleanings and function testing on all equipment.
- Participates in the Orientation and Training of 68D Students, new employees, medical interns, nursing students, residents, and other medical training programs provided by Tripler Army Medical center.
- Affixes a paging and/or other electronic communication devices used by the operating room personnel.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Certificate. Completion of a sterile processing/supply training course.
- Experience: Sterile Processing Technician - Must have a minimum of three (3) continuous years of recent (one year of which must have occurred within the last year) experience working as sterile processing technician in an SPD setting. Must have diverse sterile processing experiences to include instrument decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization. Ability to operate and troubleshoot all processing equipment to include washer-disinfector, sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, and automatic endoscope reprocessor.
