Sterile Processing Technician

About the role

Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center (OASC) is a busy outpatient surgery center seeking a Full-time (40 hours per week) Sterile Processing Technician.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment
• Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas
• Makes sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner
• Maintains a clean work area
• Maintains inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards
• Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Proficiency and understanding of medical terminology that accompanies the SPD department
• Must have SPD certification
• Orthopedic experience preferred
• Total Joint experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Sterile Processing & Distribution Certification

Special Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Standing or walking most of the day
• Sufficient mobility and strength to move throughout department and lift heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Pushing and pulling sterilizer carriages, case carts and wire supply carts
• Heavy lifting or bending associated with decontaminating soiled instruments, laundry placement and garbage from the Operating Room
• May be exposed to blood, sharp objects, and infectious diseases
• May be required to wear personal protection equipment for lengthy periods of time
