About the role

The Sterile Processing Technician reports to the Manager, Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment used in the Operating Room (OR), Endoscopy, and other procedural areas.
  • Maintaining strict infection control standards to ensure patient safety.
  • Providing the surgical team with properly sterilized instruments and supplies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the department’s internal written and practical exam, as well as meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing II status.
