About the Role

Provides a continuous flow of sterile/reusable supplies, equipment, and surgical instrumentation through centralized collection, inspection, decontamination, assembly, preparation, disinfection, sterilization, and monitoring for hospital areas. Performs these services in accordance with regulatory guidelines and designated hospital policies and procedures.

Shift: Sat/Sun 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, Thur/Fri 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM

Responsibilities

  • Maintains work environment in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Receives and inventories departmental supplies, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Receives, cleans, and decontaminates instrumentation and equipment according to Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MIFU) and departmental policies.
  • Scans instrumentation and assembles according to prescribed procedures and techniques.
  • Prepares instrumentation and equipment for sterilization following recommended procedures and techniques.
  • Performs, documents, and monitors all quality control tools.
  • Operates all departmental equipment safely and effectively.

Technical Capabilities

  • Environmental Sterility & Safety (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining environmental sterility and safety in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Intermediate): Knowledge of specific equipment, its performance criteria, capabilities, and limitations. Conducts basic tasks, remedial maintenance, and preventive maintenance (e.g., insulation testing, demagnetizing instrumentation, air pressure testing).
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance (Intermediate): Maintains equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty, including performing qualification testing (daily, weekly, monthly).
  • Inventory Control (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency in inventory control, including care and handling techniques to maintain longevity and sterility of containment devices.
  • Quality Assurance (Intermediate): Performs, documents, and monitors quality control tools. Reads, interprets, and applies Manufacturer Instructions for Use. Possesses knowledge of regulations and standards governing sterile processing functions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or Certified Sterile Processing Technician (The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc.).
