About the role
The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Sterile Processing Technicians I, II, and III. ANTHC is a non-profit Tribal health organization dedicated to serving Alaska Native and American Indian communities. This role involves transporting soiled medical equipment, performing decontamination, cleaning, inspection, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform work under direct or general supervision, may only perform simple or routine aspects of the position.
- Follow standard precautions to control the spread of infection while in decontamination, prep, and disinfection processing areas.
- Responsible for practicing according to manufacturer recommendations for high level disinfection to include quality control monitoring, and assembly of instrumentation.
- Manage inventory to meet operations in both the outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Come compliant with quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure processing equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
- Manage non-compliance to coordinate replacements and service.
- Inspect and verify instruments and equipment function properly.
- Submit work orders for equipment and maintenance, repair, or replacement, and remove defective equipment from service.
- Perform quality assurance monitoring for all sterilized products before instrumentation is released for patient care.
- Make decisions for release of instrumentation based on industry standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Sterile Processing Technician I: No supervisory responsibilities, no certification required, experience preferred.
- Sterile Processing Technician II: No supervisory responsibilities, 2 years of sterile processing and either CRCST or CER certification required.
- Sterile Processing Technician III: No supervisory responsibilities, 4 years of sterile processing experience and either CRCST, CIS, or CER certification required.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician for Sterile Processing Technician III.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and anatomy.
- Knowledge of oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of and use of manufacturer instructions for use for cleaning, decontamination, and sterilizing medical equipment and surgical instrumentation.
- Knowledge of safety precautions/procedures for operating vehicles, equipment while transporting bio-hazardous materials.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Using analytical and research skills to solve problems and make informed decisions.
- Adapting to changing situations.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
- Operating a personal computer using a variety of applications.
Other Information
- Certification is preferred and staff will be encouraged to obtain certification when eligible.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER).
- Knowledge of the regulatory requirements as defined by Hospital Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) and compliance with ANSI/AAMI ST79 and ST58 guidelines and sterilization procedures for various instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of the regulatory requirements, as defined by Hospital Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) and compliance with ANSI/AAMI ST58 and ST91 guidelines and high-level disinfection procedures for various instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, surgical procedures, and surgical instrumentation.
- Knowledge of various types of sterilization materials and equipment used in order to select the appropriate method of sterilization for particular equipment.
- Knowledge of the case cart system.
