About the role

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner or manager, this position supervises and coordinates all aspects of sterile processing function of medical/surgical supplies and equipment to include decontamination, assembly and sterile processing, sterile storage and distribution. Monitors all sterilization equipment. Maintains a clean, safe environment and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in interviewing and hiring new employees as needed.
  • Provides supervision to staff and training of new employees.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Serves as liaison with main campus Central Sterile operation (Ambulatory site only).
  • Performs daily operational functions and communicates with physicians, patients, staff and related departments in support of patient needs and unit operations.
  • Advises and guides as needed from the Manager/RN/Administrator on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire: Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Surgical Tech certification (CST or TS-C or CORST)
  • Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment: Current CRCST, CSPDT, CST, TS-C or CORST Certification
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years sterile processing experience. Previous experience with a personal computer. One (1) year of previous supervisory, management or leadership experience. Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.

Qualifications

  • Education/training: High school Diploma or equivalent. See above Education/training PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management, Business Administration or closely related field. Completion of the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum.

  • Independent Action(s) Required: Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing indirect patient care, emotional support and problem solving all in accordance with hospital and unit policies/procedures.
