About the role

Join UChicago Medicine as a Central Sterile Processing Supervisor. This position is responsible for maintaining departmental operations in the Central Sterile work area, including preparation of work schedules, job assignments, special requests, and ensuring the organization, cleanliness, and environmental compliance of decontamination, sterilization, and storage areas. Proficiency in available technology, such as the SPM inventory management system, is required. Independent judgment will be used in discharging duties.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff assembling and processing of instrument sets, trays, case carts, and the use of major pieces of equipment.
  • Directs and communicates assignments for tasks to be performed in all areas of Central Sterile Processing (CSP) responsibility.
  • Organizes activities according to priorities established by the OR schedule.
  • Reviews and evaluates daily work flow and adjusts staffing patterns according to departmental needs.
  • Advises management of potential staffing problems and/or issues.
  • Ensures all parameters of sterilization (steam, ETO, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Parasitic Acid) are met and maintains permanent records as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Assures equipment/instrumentation is functioning before use; reports malfunctions and initiates work orders or requisitions to resolve problems.
  • Performs regular audits of instrument trays and case carts for accuracy and provides documentation of audits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Thorough knowledge of OR instrumentation, medical terminology, and operating room processes.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Knowledge of all modalities of sterilization.
  • Ability to act as a resource to subordinate staff and customer population.
  • Basic computer knowledge required.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.
  • RN, LPN, or OR Tech with OR experience preferred.
  • Case Cart and inventory experience a plus.
  • Experience in dealing with employees covered under bargaining unit contracts highly preferred.
  • 5 years as a Central Sterile (CS) technician preferred.
  • Certification for Central Service Technician preferred upon hire; required after 18 months of employment.

Schedule

Full-time (1.0 FTE), Days, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

Pay

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for this position, based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
