Sterile Processing Assistant

PeaceHealth is seeking a Sterile Processing Assistant for a part-time, 0.80 FTE, variable position. The salary range is $22.13 – $30.30, dependent upon education, training, work experience, and other factors. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement.

Continuously exemplifies the mission, values, and customer service philosophy of PeaceHealth in job performance and relationships. This position is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates instrumentation and supplies.
• Collects, disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instrumentation used in procedures.
• Reassembles instruments and packages appropriately.
• Operates a variety of disinfecting equipment.
• Monitors and documents sterilization parameters.
• Cleans and maintains department equipment.
• Understands and applies the principles of asepsis in sterile processing work.
• Restocks work areas and delivers instrumentation to appropriate departments.
• Provides excellent customer service and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Participates in staff education and department meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Previous hospital or patient care experience (preferred).
• Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).

• Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others (required).
• Basic computer skills (required).
• Well organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated (required).
• Ability to utilize computers for email, training records, and completing online education (required).
• Ability to communicate appropriately with individuals regardless of age (required).

Working Conditions

• Lifting/carrying: Occasional up to 25 lbs; frequent up to 10 lbs.
• Push/pull: Occasional up to 50 lbs force.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, and grasping.
• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
• Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Fine motor skills required for precise procedures.
• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
