Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician I
Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing all of the functions of a sterile compounding pharmacy technician, including but not limited to:
- Preparing IV admixtures using aseptic techniques as outlined in USP 797.
- Accurately obtaining, calculating, measuring, and verifying the medications used in compounding.
- Adhering to policies for proper labeling of compounded sterile products (CSPs), determination of beyond use date (BUD), and proper storage of CSPs.
- Maintaining detailed and accurate records of compounding activities.
- Following USP 800 guidelines for the safe handling of hazardous drugs.
- Performing and documenting daily and monthly cleanings as directed.
- Monitoring and recording temperature, humidity, and pressure of assigned areas daily as directed.
- Collaborating with pharmacists to promptly address any issues.
- Reviewing medication and supply inventory daily to ensure proper stock.
- Maintaining the IV room in a clean, organized manner.
- Regularly inspecting and maintaining compounding equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Reporting any malfunctions promptly and participating in equipment calibration as needed.
- Compounding all medications in a timely manner.
- Prioritizing stat medications or now doses over medications due later in the shift.
- Performing charge capture, reconciling discrepancies, and issuing credits.
- Checking for expired medications in assigned areas.
- Assessing the need for bulk compounding each shift; preparing CSPs to maintain appropriate PAR levels.
- Communicating to the next shift.
- Assisting other technicians with tasks outside of the IV room if/when all IV room tasks for the shift are completed.
- Staying abreast of changes in USP guidelines.
- Completing required annual or biannual competency assessments in sterile compounding as directed by USP 797 and USP 800.
- Assisting in the education of co-workers to ensure the sterility of the cleanroom is maintained.
- Assisting in mentoring and training assigned staff, interns, and new co-workers with competencies and policies/procedures.

Requirements
Requires an Associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field, with 3-5 years of clinical pharmacy experience. Must have a Pharmacy Technician Certification and continue education. Registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy.
