About the role

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for patients with complex needs and assumes full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

This position requires direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a plan of care for a specific patient assignment.
• Sets priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity and maintains continuity through clear and concise communication.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of growth and development of adult, geriatric, and neonatal patients (where applicable).
• Documents patient care clearly, completely, and concisely in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
• Develops a comprehensive plan of care based on data from initial assessments, healthcare team input, and medical records.
• Creates and implements a comprehensive educational plan for patients and families, utilizing appropriate resources.
• Develops a comprehensive discharge plan utilizing community resources and referrals.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and revises it as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
• Participates in unit-based and organizational quality management and improvement programs.
• Provides a safe environment for patients, staff, family, and visitors.
• Administers medication safely according to established policies and procedures.
• Performs nursing procedures safely and efficiently and uses equipment effectively.
• Demonstrates awareness of infection risks and utilizes universal precautions.
• Interacts with patients, families, and colleagues in a professional manner and collaborates with other disciplines.
• Develops, utilizes, and evaluates unit-specific standards of care and upholds the A.N.A. code of ethics.
• Participates in determining and implementing unit goals and objectives.
• Serves on unit-based and organizational committees and disseminates information to peers.
• Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth by identifying learning needs and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
• Participates in unit-based and organizational educational programs and seeks guidance for additional learning needs.
• Utilizes nursing research findings in clinical practice and contributes to nursing and medical research endeavors.
• Utilizes time and materials effectively and economically, providing cost-effective healthcare suggestions.
• Assesses patient acuity accurately for staffing, transfers, and assignments.
• Participates in the orientation of new staff, students, and others as appropriate.
• Provides input into the clinical evaluation of other staff.
• Assumes responsibility for the unit in the absence of leadership personnel.
• Adheres to hospital and nursing policies and aids in their interpretation to others.
• Recommends changes in policies and procedures through appropriate channels.
• Participates in cooperative efforts and peer support for smooth unit operations, including flexibility in assignments and schedules.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts.
• For newly licensed nurses, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required.
• Stepdown medicine experience preferred.
• Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract.
• Membership in professional organizations is recommended, and certification in a specialty area is encouraged.

Additional Details

This role is located on Tower 16AB, 75 Francis Street, and is a 36-hour variable night shift position.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $41.71 - $105.65.
