About the role

JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering in-person interactive and hands-on lessons in STEM subjects.
  • Providing guidance and support to students during classroom workshops, and events.
  • Collaborating with other instructors, volunteers, and staff to develop and improve curriculum materials and program content.
  • Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in college or grad school, while majoring in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, education).
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students in a STEM-related subject area is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and software applications.

Pay

This is an unpaid position with JerseySTEM.

Schedule

  • Length: 10 weeks - Fall semester (Late Sept - Early Dec); Spring semester (Late Jan - Early Apr)
  • Class Duration: 2 hours of on-site instruction per week + one 4-hour training session at kick off
