About the role
The STEM Lab tutor provides academic support services and works with students individually and in small groups to develop and implement tools to help those students improve their science, math, and analytical skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide high quality, ethical academic support services to students.
- Aid students with general questions, computer help, or in connecting with a tutor or Academic Success Coach.
- Provide tutoring in an individual, group, or workshop setting.
- Complete all mandatory training and participate in a minimum of two professional developments each year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a science or math intensive discipline (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc.).
- Minimum of one to two years working in an academic setting with faculty and staff.
- Minimum of one year teaching and/or tutoring experience.
- Successful completion of college-level science, math, and other quantitative coursework (transcript(s) required).
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of educational tutoring principles, practices, techniques and theory.
- Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing to a diverse audience and adapting communication style to that audience.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment.
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Schedule
Department hours of operation: Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m. Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Appointment Length Regular Continuous/Until Further Notice
