STEAM/Gifted Teacher

About the Role

The STEAM/Gifted Teacher position provides integrated STEM and Gifted programming across grade levels. STEM instruction includes project-based learning, computer science, and the engineering design process. This role also supports Gifted services, ensuring students' needs are met as measured by achievement of Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP) goals, course grades, state assessments, and post-secondary entrance assessments. The teacher ensures adherence to all gifted education laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design STEM programming that integrates into the appropriate grade-level curriculum.
• Deliver STEM instruction differentiated to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
• Provide support and coaching to classroom teachers on integrating STEM into the curriculum.
• Attend professional development for both STEM and Gifted roles.
• Collaborate with the School Leadership Team, Special Education Program Coordinators, Supervisor of K-12 Curriculum, and Director of Special Education to ensure seamless delivery of gifted education services.
• Serve as a liaison between gifted education and general education within the school building.
• Facilitate communication between administrators, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians regarding gifted education.
• Develop effective GIEPs that translate into measurable results for students.
• Monitor and respond to students' progress and course grades.
• Ensure all paperwork complies with gifted education timelines.
• Provide finalized gifted education documents to parents/guardians.
• Provide gifted education case management for students on assigned caseload.

Requirements

• 3+ years of teaching experience.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
• Explicit and relentless focus on outcomes.
• Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate in Grades K-6/K-4 (Elementary).

Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, legal documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, correspondence, and develop instructional plans.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, managers, clients, and the public.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical concepts in routine assignments.

• Clear and concise communication in both oral and written form.
• Ability to meet the demands of multiple people and clients, responding to several problems simultaneously.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.

• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
• Travel to various regional locations may be required.

Work Environment

• The noise level is usually quiet but may be moderate to loud at times.
• Frequent interaction with parents, the public, and staff during and after the normal workday.
• Must meet multiple demands from several people and exhibit strong human relation skills, including courtesy, tact, and patience.
